Urgent cybersecurity Update Published, Websites Taken Offline Globally

International governments and agencies have called on websites to fix two major cyber-security bugs in a standard coding language that drives much of the internet.

The vulnerabilities are in the PHP programming language, and a remedy was released Wednesday afternoon.

Organisations unable to patch in time have been advised by a number of cyber-security groups to consider shutting their sites down, with pages having been taken down by bodies including the Finnish government, Edinburgh council and the BBC.

AI identified the holes, with cyber-security firm Wiz calling them the “most critical vulnerabilities ever found” by the technology, which is altering the cyber landscape.

Finland has temporarily shut down the government’s public web services, while the Netherlands’ cyber-security agency said it was taking its own website offline because of the vulnerabilities.

The US National Security Agency posted similar advice on X for organizations to take their systems offline if they could not update with the fix. These vulnerabilities allow a direct path to the server’s file system or database,” it said.

Meanwhile, the White House said federal agencies were working with prominent AI labs to accelerate a cure.
