Data Reveals Decline in Gulf Shipping Traffic Through Hormuz

Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz declined sharply on Wednesday, with just six commodity vessels making the transit, down from 11 the day before and well below the 10-day average of around 13, according to preliminary shipping data released Thursday.

The vessels included two very large gas carriers, two long-range tankers, one Supramax tanker, and one Panamax tanker, according to Kpler data recorded as of 0405 GMT.

The number of vessels transiting the waterway could still shift, as some ships typically switch off their transponders during the journey, meaning actual traffic levels may differ from what the tracking data shows.
