Iran’s Prerequisites for Ending War with US Repeated by Mojtaba Khamenei
TEHRAN — Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei on Tuesday repeated Iran’s prerequisites for ending the war with the United States in a meeting with his security director.
Khamenei met with Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaee, the supreme leader’s office said in a Telegram post.
The discussion took place a day after Rezaee met with senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan in Iran in a bid by the three states to ease tensions and prevent another round of US-Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic.
In the meeting, the first announced publicly between Rezaei and the leader, they addressed “strengthening bilateral relations with neighbouring countries” and “safeguarding national and regional security through the management of the Strait of Hormuz,” Khamenei’s office said.
The Iranian leader emphasised the need to protect the rights and interests of the Iranian people and what Tehran calls the “resistance front” by implementing the conditions outlined by Iranian officials for the conclusion of the conflict.
He said the Supreme National Security Council is a body which has a key role in managing the affairs of the state and emphasized the need for coordination between political, economic, cultural and security organisations.
Khamenei emphasised the necessity of maintaining national and regional security through controlling the crucial Strait of Hormuz and further reinforcing relations with neighbouring nations on the basis of common interests.
It added that Rezaei informed Khamenei on the country’s status and the steps being taken to overcome current issues.
Mojtaba Khamenei was selected in March to become the next ruler, replacing his father and long-time dictator Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who died in US-Israeli bombings on February 28 in central Tehran along with senior military leaders and was claimed to have been injured in the same incident.
Since his appointment he has communicated only in written messages, some of them published in handwriting attributed to him.
Several Iranian officials, including Judiciary director Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei and parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said in recent days they had unusual encounters with the supreme leader.
