Could Some Schools in the UAE get up to four Days off for Diwali?

This year, Diwali might be more than just a holiday for Indian families in the UAE. Some schools are planning a four-day break, which will give kids more time to spend with their families.

It’s the Festival of Lights, and this year it’s on November 8. Some Indian curriculum schools are planning their holidays to fall on the same weekend, so students can have a longer break before returning to school.

Lalitha Suresh, the principal and CEO of GEMS Our Own Indian School in Dubai said that the holiday that falls right before the weekend will give families a chance to celebrate together.

Principal Abhilasha Singh said that schools must keep up with the required number of school days while still making time for important cultural events.

ADEK allows teachers up to 196 days off, but at least 191 are required. We meet this requirement, so we can set aside two days for Diwali and one for another autumn holiday. One day was also used for a meeting between parents and teachers. Singh said that the school goes through the proper approval process before telling families about holidays.

We use ADEK’s activity calendar to ask for these exceptions. As soon as we get permission we add the dates to our school calendar.
