RIYADH — Work has begun on a major road development project in Riyadh aimed at easing traffic and strengthening connections between key areas of the capital.

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City announced on Sunday the start of construction on two new bridges as part of the Taif Road Development Project. The upgrades will improve the road’s intersections with Najd Road and Asir Road.

The 15‑kilometer project is expected to enhance connectivity between Qiddiya in western Riyadh and the capital’s Ring Road and Jeddah Road to the east, reducing travel times along one of the city’s busiest corridors. Once completed, the corridor’s capacity is projected to reach about 200,000 vehicles per day.

The redevelopment of the Najd and Asir intersections will include an integrated system of bridges and traffic lanes designed to improve traffic movement, reduce congestion, and increase transport efficiency.

The commission said digital platforms and navigation apps will be updated regularly to inform motorists about construction progress and traffic diversions.

The Taif Road project is part of Riyadh’s wider road development program, which includes building and upgrading more than 500 kilometers of roads across the capital. The initiative supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals for an integrated and sustainable urban transport network.
