Masam Receives Praise for Ongoing Mine-Clearance Efforts in Yemen’s Midi

Othman Mujalli, a member of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, praised the work of Project Masam’s engineering teams during a field visit Monday to liberated areas in northern Hajjah, reviewing the progress made clearing landmines and explosives from the Midi district.

Since beginning operations in the area, Masam teams have removed more than 13,000 landmines, unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive devices, clearing millions of square meters of land. Mujalli said the sheer volume of explosives planted by Houthi forces in farmland and other essential areas underscored the scale of danger facing civilians in Midi, one of the most heavily mined districts in Yemen.

He said the clearance work is saving lives and allowing farmers and herders to return to their daily routines and move about safely and freely, adding that the ongoing survey and clearance operations are helping restore a sense of security and stability to communities affected by the mines. Mujalli also thanked Saudi Arabia’s leadership for its continued backing of Masam, calling the humanitarian project vital to clearing landmines and explosives across Yemen, and commended the Kingdom more broadly for its sustained support of humanitarian relief and development efforts in the country.
