GCC Discusses Maritime Safety and Stability in the Hormuz Strait
RIYADH — Gulf Cooperation Council foreign ministers met virtually on Tuesday to intensify coordination on freedom of navigation and safety in the Strait of Hormuz, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan attended the meeting, where ministers exchanged views on current developments and ongoing negotiations. Discussions focused on ensuring rights of passage and transit, as well as the smooth flow of shipping, trade, and supplies in accordance with international law, while upholding the sovereign rights of all littoral states of the Gulf.
The ministers emphasized the importance of continuing joint action, prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions, and creating conditions conducive to building trust and reaching solutions acceptable to all parties. They also discussed efforts to advance negotiations toward practical understandings that contribute to de-escalating tensions and fostering an environment of regional security and stability.
