Saudi Arabia Issued 58,000 Nationality Certificates in September 9.7% Increase

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia granted 58,000 certificates of origin in September, a rise of 9.7 percent from August, benefiting exporters in the industrial, commercial and private sectors.

Ministry data showed the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources awarded 52,895 certificates in August, 50,030 in July and 47,368 in June.

Certificates determine the country of origin of goods shipped internationally and help exporters meet the requirements of destination markets.

The service is provided to industrial establishments, organisations, institutions and people including farmers, fishers, sole proprietors and local artists.   The surge in certificate issuing comes as Saudi Arabia seeks to boost industry and wean itself off oil.

The National Industrial Strategy intends to expand exports of manufacturing goods to over SR557 billion ($148 billion) annually by 2030 and SR892 billion by 2035, the Kingdom said.

Those targets were three times and 5.3 times the 2020 level respectively, the government said.

Firms’ uncertainty about regional transit linkages and access to global markets has coincided with Saudi Arabia’s push to grow non-oil exports.

Regional conflicts have hampered trade channels and prompted fears over transportation prices and delivery times across the Middle East.

The Kingdom’s national non-oil exports, excluding re-exports, surged 8.5 percent year-on-year in August to SR18.32 billion, the General Authority for Statistics said. Non-oil exports including re-exports declined 9.1 percent in the same time.
