UAE Gets Its First AI Laptop That Works Without an Internet Connection
UAE telecommunications company e& has launched its first smart laptop designed to run advanced tools without requiring an internet connection, targeting government and enterprise customers.
The device, called the AI Laptop by e&, uses Snapdragon X Series processors from Qualcomm Technologies and includes built-in language models specifically optimized for the hardware. This setup allows designated tasks to be processed directly on the device rather than relying on an external cloud platform.
The approach is designed to address a major barrier preventing governments and regulated businesses from more broadly adopting this kind of technology: how to use it without transferring sensitive data outside their own systems. By keeping selected data, models, and processing on the device itself, e& says customers can maintain greater control over confidential information while reducing their reliance on third-party cloud environments.
The laptop is being made available to enterprise customers in the UAE, with government, financial services, healthcare, education, logistics, and energy identified as key target sectors. It could also prove useful at oil and gas facilities, logistics centers, and remote educational institutions where internet connectivity may be unreliable or intentionally restricted for security purposes.
“Our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to introduce the first AI Laptop by e& powered by Snapdragon X Series processors combines data sovereignty with advanced productivity in a secure, offline-capable platform,” said Abdulla Ebrahim Al Ahmed, chief government and VVIP relations officer at e& UAE. “By embedding advanced intelligence directly into the hardware, we are supporting the UAE’s ambition to lead in AI innovation by placing secure, localised computing power directly into the hands of the workforce driving our economy forward.”
The launch reflects a broader shift among technology companies toward moving certain processing tasks from large data centers to personal devices. Running models locally can reduce the delay involved in sending information to and from the cloud, while also lowering an organization’s dependence on internet connectivity — though cloud systems will remain essential for more computationally demanding applications.
Mohammed Al Khairy, head of edge AI for the Middle East and Africa at Qualcomm, said on-device models could help enterprises boost productivity while retaining greater control over their data.
Two versions of the laptop will be offered initially, though the company has not disclosed pricing or confirmed whether it will eventually be made available directly to individual consumers. Enterprise customers will instead need to contact e& to discuss configurations and organization-wide deployment options.
