Iran Military Reports Drone Operation Against US Base in Kuwait
TEHRAN — Iran’s military announced on Friday that it carried out drone strikes targeting US facilities at Ahmad Al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait, marking a resumption of hostilities after a nearly week-long lull in fighting.
The Iranian army said in a statement that it struck “fighter aircraft shelters, satellite communications systems and equipment storage facilities” at the base. There was no immediate comment from US Central Command.
Iran described the operation as a response to recent US strikes on Qeshm Island, a strategic location in the Strait of Hormuz. Local media reported Thursday that three members of a family were killed in American attacks on the island.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil and gas trade, has been effectively closed by Iran since the outbreak of the war on February 28. The US has conducted repeated strikes on Iran’s southern coastal provinces as part of its efforts to weaken Tehran’s control over the strategic passage.
The latest exchange comes after both sides observed a period of relative calm following weeks of nightly US strikes and Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting American allies across the Gulf.
