Protecting Communities: Saudi Masam Clears 1,609 Explosive Devices in Yemen
RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Masam demining project removed 1,609 explosive devices from various regions of Yemen during the past week, including 1,584 unexploded ordnances, 21 anti‑tank mines, and four anti‑personnel mines.
The explosives were planted indiscriminately, posing a direct threat to civilians, including children, women, and the elderly. Clearance operations took place in Marib, Aden, Taiz, Hodeidah, Sanaa, and several other governorates.
Since the project’s launch in 2018, Masam has cleared a total of 564,339 explosives. In May alone, teams removed 6,323 devices. The initiative focuses on clearing villages, roads, and schools to allow safe civilian movement and humanitarian aid delivery.
Masam also trains local demining engineers and supports Yemenis injured by explosive devices. The project is part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian efforts through KSrelief to help Yemenis live in a safe and dignified environment.
