NEW DELHI — Three Indian crew members from the Palau‑flagged MT Settebello, initially reported missing after a suspected US missile strike off the coast of Oman, have been confirmed dead. Two bodies have been recovered, and repatriation is being arranged.

India’s Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, called the incident “a profound loss to our maritime family.” He added that the government stands firmly with the bereaved and has ordered officials to ensure the swift return of the mortal remains.

The vessel was carrying 24 Indian crew members when it was hit. Twenty‑one were rescued. The US said its military carried out a “precision” strike after the tanker failed to follow instructions and was transporting oil from Iran.

India’s foreign ministry summoned the US Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi to protest the attack, stating that continuing incidents of shipping attacks in the region are “deeply worrisome” and a direct result of the ongoing conflict.
