Japan-Saudi Arabia Economic Relations Gain New Momentum

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said Wednesday that Japan remains a key economic partner for the Kingdom, with both countries positioned to capitalize on expanding opportunities across multiple sectors.

Speaking at a strategic dialogue meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Motegi, Prince Faisal said there are promising prospects to deepen cooperation in investment, energy, resources, supply chains, defense, and technology, along with the exchange of expertise, in ways that support shared priorities between the two nations.

He affirmed that Saudi Arabia would remain a dependable partner for Japan across various industries, particularly energy, and praised Tokyo’s efforts to strengthen economic resilience while promoting stability in energy markets and global trade.

Maritime security also featured prominently in the discussion, with Prince Faisal describing it as a shared priority between the two countries. He stressed the importance of protecting freedom of navigation on international waterways in line with international law, specifically highlighting the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz, the Bab El-Mandeb Strait, and other key maritime corridors open, secure, and free from threats.

Turning to regional stability, Prince Faisal said the Kingdom continues working to ease tensions and prevent renewed conflict by pursuing comprehensive, sustainable diplomatic solutions that address the underlying causes of instability in the region.

“We reaffirm that diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful means remain our priorities, and we value Japan’s role in upholding the principles of international law, its humanitarian and developmental contributions, and its stance in support of stability and peaceful solutions,” he said.
