Mawani Strengthens Trade Corridors with CMA CGM Shipping Service from Jeddah
Saudi Arabia’s Ports Authority, Mawani, has introduced a new CMA CGM container shipping service connecting Jeddah Islamic Port to major Asian and European markets, strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a critical global trade hub.
The “Ocean Rise” service links Jeddah Islamic Port with key maritime centers including Kobe, Nagoya, and Yokohama in Japan; Xiamen, Yantian, and Nansha in China; Rotterdam in the Netherlands; Hamburg in Germany; and Southampton in the United Kingdom. The service has a handling capacity of 3,001 twenty-foot equivalent units, supporting the movement of Saudi exports and imports while connecting the Kingdom to international supply chains.
This latest addition represents part of a broader expansion by Mawani aimed at enhancing Saudi Arabia’s connectivity with regional and international markets. The authority has launched 18 maritime shipping services during the current period, with a combined estimated handling capacity of 123,552 TEUs. These efforts reflect Mawani’s commitment to strengthening Saudi Arabia’s standing as a global logistics hub connecting three continents.
“This addition aligns with Mawani’s efforts to enhance the Kingdom’s ranking in global performance indicators and support global trade flows, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy to reinforce the Kingdom’s standing as a global logistics hub,” Mawani stated in a statement.
The expansion involves partnerships with major international shipping companies including MSC, Maersk, PIL, CMA CGM, and Hapag-Lloyd. These collaborations ensure efficient delivery of goods to markets and enhance operational readiness across Saudi ports. In March alone, Mawani added five shipping services with a combined capacity of 63,594 TEUs, introducing routes designed to enhance trade connectivity and support supply-chain resilience amid regional maritime disruptions.
Port performance metrics reflect the strategic importance of Mawani’s infrastructure. Saudi ports recorded a 6.66 percent annual increase in cargo throughput in March, while Mawani-managed ports handled 667,882 TEUs in February, up 20.89 percent from the same period a year earlier. These figures demonstrate sustained demand for maritime connectivity and the effectiveness of Mawani’s expansion strategy.
Jeddah Islamic Port serves as one of the Kingdom’s principal maritime gateways. The facility includes 62 multi-purpose berths, two container terminals, a logistics park for warehousing and re-export operations, specialized terminals, marine service berths, and advanced equipment. The port’s total handling capacity reaches 130 million tonnes, positioning it as a major player in regional and international trade networks.
The continued expansion of shipping services aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 economic diversification strategy, which prioritizes developing world-class logistics and transport infrastructure. By strengthening connectivity with major international ports and enhancing supply-chain continuity, Mawani is positioning Saudi ports as essential components of global trade networks and supporting the Kingdom’s emergence as a premier regional logistics center.
The introduction of the CMA CGM service represents a significant step in Mawani’s systematic effort to deepen Saudi Arabia’s integration into international maritime commerce while building resilience in global supply chains.
