JEDDAH — The Diriyah Biennale Foundation has unveiled the four architecture firms shortlisted for the second edition of the AlMusalla Prize, an international competition to design a flexible, adaptable prayer and contemplation space.

The shortlist includes: Al‑Jawad Pike (UK), Civil Architecture (Bahrain/Kuwait), MILLIØNS (US), and NEW SOUTH (France). Each was selected for its ability to blend spiritual practice with sustainable innovation.

The winning design, to be announced in March 2027, will be built at the Islamic Arts Biennale’s venue in Jeddah’s Western Hajj Terminal. After the four‑month biennale, the structure will be relocated permanently to Diriyah’s JAX District.

This edition introduces a new challenge: a single design for two different sites and contexts — Jeddah and Diriyah. The musalla must not exceed 20×20 meters and a height of 12 meters, meeting all prayer requirements.

The jury is chaired by Prince Nawaf bin Ayyaf, CEO of the Architecture and Design Commission. “We are selecting a contribution to the ongoing global discourse on contemporary Islamic art and design,” he said.
