RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Project Masam destroyed 4,199 mines, unexploded ordnance, and other war remnants in the Zinjibar district of Yemen’s Abyan governorate, the latest operation to clear deadly explosives laid by Houthi forces.

The operation on Thursday took place in the Dofas area. Military engineers removed 15 anti‑tank mines, 15 anti‑personnel mines, 102 shells, three explosive devices, 4,056 bullets, 15 hand grenades, and three missiles. The devices were collected from conflict zones in Aden, Lahj, and Abyan.

Project Masam, overseen by the Saudi aid agency KSrelief, has cleared more than 553,828 explosive threats in Yemen since mid‑2018. The work allows displaced families to return home, farmers to access their land, and humanitarian groups to operate more safely.

Munther Ahmed Qasim, commander of the first special task force, said the team works year‑round to protect innocent lives and is committed to clearing all Yemeni territory of mine threats.
