Manga Majlis in Riyadh Showcases the Art and Craft Behind Anime Production
RIYADH — Anime and manga enthusiasts gathered at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall on July 16 for the Manga Majlis Community Initiative, where industry professionals shared insights into the creative process behind anime production.
The event brought together fans, creators, and aspiring artists to explore how anime and manga evolve from initial ideas to finished productions. A panel featuring Lamis Al-Suntali from Manga Productions, character designer Amani Al-Ruwais, director Riyadh Dosari, and writer Hatem Al-Omari discussed storytelling, scriptwriting, character design, and the collaborative nature of animation.
Al-Suntali said every project comes with its own challenges, with research often being the most time-consuming stage. “We continue researching until we find the answers we need,” she explained.
Al-Ruwais described how scripts are translated into visual concepts through character and environmental design, while Dosari emphasized the importance of constant communication between writers, designers, directors, and producers.
Organizers made the event accessible by welcoming members of the Deaf community with dedicated sign language interpretation. The panelists agreed that overcoming challenges strengthens both the creative process and the finished work.
