US House Narrowly Blocks Resolution Challenging Trump’s Iran War Strategy
WASHINGTON — The US House of Representatives voted 212‑212 on a war powers resolution aimed at stopping the Iran conflict unless Congress authorizes it. The tie meant the measure failed, falling just short of a majority.
Three Republicans joined most Democrats in support, while one Democrat opposed. It was the third House vote on the issue this year, and the first since a 60‑day deadline passed on May 1. President Donald Trump has argued that a ceasefire effectively ended hostilities, allowing him to continue operations without further congressional approval.
Democrats cited constitutional authority, warning that Trump has dragged the country into a prolonged war without a clear strategy, driving up fuel and food prices. Republicans defended Trump’s actions as lawful commander‑in‑chief powers to counter an imminent threat. The Senate has also rejected similar resolutions seven times, with a Wednesday vote failing 50‑49.
