Saudi Reef Academy Drives Sustainable Development for Rural Beekeepers
DAMMAM — Saudi Reef Academy is expanding its efforts to promote sustainable rural development through a specialized initiative that equips beekeepers with modern skills and supports high-quality local honey production.
The initiative is being implemented in cooperation with the Eastern Province branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, in partnership with beekeeper associations in the region and Baha.
The programme aims to empower beekeepers, develop human capabilities, and maximise the use of local resources. A key focus is training beekeepers in best practices for mangrove honey production, an increasingly important niche market, while also strengthening the commercial identity of local products. The initiative also expands extension and practical training programmes and supports the development of value chains for high-quality honey products.
The effort reflects the academy’s commitment to sustainable rural development through capacity building and the creation of opportunities that improve quality of life. It aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by promoting the efficient use of the comparative advantages of rural areas across the Kingdom and helping beekeepers move toward more productive and commercially viable operations.
