Saudi Arabia to Increase Minimum Salary to SR6,000 Per Month by April 2028

Saudi Arabia said it would boost the minimum supported salary under its Employment Support Program to SR5,000 ($1,333) per month beginning April 25 and to SR6,000 a year later.

The move, announced by the Human Resources Development Fund, is based on the fund’s role in empowering national talent and enhancing its competitiveness in the labour market, while developing support mechanisms in line with objectives to improve the quality and sustainability of jobs, the Saudi Press Agency said.

It also aims to encourage private-sector entities to hire Saudi citizens, therefore contributing to the wider participation of Saudi men and women in the labour market and supporting economic development objectives.

This comes at a time when the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development is currently working on implementing its decision regarding raising the minimum wage to calculate the employment of Saudi nationals under the Nitaqat program, which is the country’s Saudization program that classifies private sector firms based on their commitment to requirements for employing Saudi nationals.

The fund said it would implement the modification in two phases, starting April 25, 2027, when the minimum supported wage will increase from SR4,000 to SR5,000 per month for new applications.

The modification will apply to existing applications for support for support payments for May 2027, it said.

The second phase commences on April 25, 2028, by raising the minimum supported wage for new applications from SR5,000 to SR6,000 per month. The modification will apply to current support applications, with support payments starting in May 2028.
