Saudi Arabia Marks Independence Day of Liberia and Maldives with Official Greetings
JEDDAH — Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent congratulatory messages to the leaders of Liberia and Maldives on Sunday, marking their countries’ independence anniversaries.
In cables carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the king and crown prince wished Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai continued good health and the people of Liberia steady progress on the 179th anniversary of the nation’s independence. Liberia, Africa’s oldest continuously independent nation, declared independence on July 26, 1847.
Separate cables were sent to Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu on the 61st anniversary of his country’s independence. The Maldives, Asia’s smallest nation by land area, broke from British rule in 1965 and became a presidential republic three years later.
Prince Mansour bin Mutaib bin Abdulaziz, minister of state and royal adviser, attended the Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations in Malé, where he conveyed the Saudi leaders’ messages to President Muizzu.
