Saudi Students Represent Kingdom at 3rd International AI Olympiad in Kazakhstan
RIYADH — Four Saudi students are representing the Kingdom this week at the third annual International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad in Astana, Kazakhstan, where more than 100 countries are competing.
The Saudi team includes Yousef Farid Al-Khalawi and Qusay Emad Jadallah from Jeddah, Ali Ayman Al-Khabbaz from the Eastern Province, and Hamad Mohammed Al-Kalbani from Riyadh. They earned their places through a specialized training program organized by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, known as Mawhiba, in partnership with the Ministry of Education.
The Olympiad, which runs from August 2 to 8, tests participants on machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision. Saudi Arabia made its debut at the event last year in Beijing, where the team secured four bronze medals. The competition is one of the world’s leading AI contests for high school students. Participation this year is part of broader efforts to prepare Saudi students for future-focused scientific fields and strengthen the Kingdom’s presence at international academic competitions.
