ROME — Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Albudaiwi and Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani signed a memorandum of understanding in Rome on Monday to expand cooperation in political dialogue, knowledge exchange, and other areas of mutual interest.

“The relations between the GCC member states and the Republic of Italy are witnessing continuous development across various fields, driven by their close ties and mutual interests,” Albudaiwi said in a statement shared by the General Secretariat.

He said the MoU would strengthen coordination between the GCC and Italy by broadening partnerships across several sectors of shared interest and enhancing joint mechanisms for cooperation.

Both sides expressed hope that the agreement would open new avenues for cooperation and further strengthen communication and coordination in support of their common goals.

The signing comes as the GCC continues to expand its diplomatic and economic partnerships with key European partners. Italy, as a major European economy and Mediterranean power, shares strategic interests with the Gulf region in areas including energy security, trade, investment, and regional stability. The MoU is expected to provide a framework for deeper engagement across these sectors. No further details on specific areas of cooperation or implementation timelines were immediately released following the signing.
