BEIJING — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in Beijing on Tuesday, calling for maintaining the momentum of US‑Iran negotiations and stressing that “talking is better than fighting.”

Wang welcomed the launch of US‑Iran negotiations, saying that “facts have proven time and again that fists cannot buy peace and security, and only by upholding justice can lasting peace and stability be achieved.” He noted that the current ceasefire remains fragile, but “talking is better than fighting, and dialogue is better than confrontation.”

The key, Wang said, is to safeguard and implement the memorandum of understanding, maintain the momentum of negotiations, overcome difficulties and interference, and work toward an early comprehensive agreement “agreed by both the United States and Iran, accepted by regional countries, and welcomed by the international community.”

Both ministers also discussed freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasising that the waterway “contributes to supporting energy security and the stability of the global economy.” China, which relies heavily on energy imports from the Gulf, has repeatedly called for an end to the conflict, viewing a solution as beneficial to the United States, Iran, and the rest of the world.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

On bilateral relations, Wang noted that the China‑Saudi comprehensive strategic partnership, established a decade ago, has become “a model of win‑win cooperation among Global South countries.” He called on both sides to make full use of the high‑level joint committee to advance cooperation in all fields, leverage complementary advantages, optimise trade structures, increase two‑way investment, and promote green development.

Prince Faisal said Saudi Arabia “highly cherishes relations with China and firmly abides by the one‑China principle.” He expressed willingness to deepen cooperation in investment, finance, energy, and artificial intelligence. He also appreciated China’s “constructive role in promoting the de‑escalation of the situation in the Middle East” and looked forward to working with China to bring peace and stability to the region.

Earlier, Prince Faisal met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, who called on both countries to deepen political mutual trust and expand practical cooperation. The Saudi foreign minister’s visit to China runs from June 30 to July 1.
