Expo 2030 Riyadh Reveals Delivery Progress and Long-Term Legacy Plans
RIYADH — With over 42 million expected visits and participation from 197 countries, Expo 2030 Riyadh is taking shape. Officials gave a site walkthrough this week, reporting significant progress ahead of the six‑month global event running from October 2030 to March 2031.
According to Murad Al‑Sayed, chief delivery officer, about 6.2 million cubic meters of earthworks are complete, and 77% of development areas have been handed over for construction. A 400 MW permanent power connection is on track for completion by early 2029.
Crucially, 95% of what is built by Expo 2030 Riyadh Co. will be repurposed after the event into a “Global Village” — a mixed‑use community with retail, culture, housing, and entertainment. The total site spans 6 million square meters.
The expo is expected to contribute $67 billion to Saudi GDP, create 171,000 direct and indirect jobs, and train 52,000 volunteers. A dedicated metro station and an expanded King Salman Road will improve access.
Officials also highlighted worker safety: more than 1.5 million safe man‑hours have been logged across contractors, with hotlines and accommodation inspections ensuring welfare.
