Deadliest Day Since Truce: Lebanon Reports 14 Killed in Israel Strikes
BEIRUT — Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon killed 14 people on Sunday, including two women and two children, marking the highest daily death toll since a ceasefire took effect just over a week ago.
Lebanon’s health ministry said 37 others were wounded. The strikes targeted multiple locations, including areas where Israel had issued evacuation warnings. One Israeli soldier was also killed during combat in the south, the Israeli military confirmed.
The violence comes as both sides trade accusations of violating the fragile truce, which was extended for three weeks on Thursday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military is acting “vigorously” against Hezbollah and reserves the right to pre-empt threats. Hezbollah vowed to keep responding to what it called “continued violations.”
Since the ceasefire began, Israeli strikes have killed at least 36 people in Lebanon, according to an AFP tally. More than 2,500 have died since the war erupted in March.
