Yemeni Forces Prepare Response After Houthi Attack on Mocha
DUBAI — Yemen’s armed forces said Monday they would respond to a Houthi missile and drone attack on the Red Sea port city of Mocha that killed seven people and wounded 30 others.
Military spokesperson Col. Wahed Abdullah Al-Nazzal said the attack on military units in Mocha was viewed as an assault on the armed forces as a whole. “We possess the will, capability and initiative necessary to neutralize the sources of the threat,” he said in a statement.
The military said four of its personnel and three civilians were killed, while 30 others, mostly civilians, were wounded. Air defenses intercepted and shot down 11 Houthi drones involved in the attack, which also targeted civilian infrastructure, homes, and power stations using missiles and drones.
The military said it would continue operations against the Iran-backed Houthis while seeking to protect civilian lives and property. The attack comes amid heightened tensions in Yemen, where the Houthis have escalated attacks on government-controlled areas in recent weeks.
