Philippines Earthquake Today: Magnitude 5.8 Quake Triggers Tremors in Manila

MANILA — A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck off Occidental Mindoro province in the western Philippines on Friday, with tremors felt in the capital Manila, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology and Reuters witnesses.

The quake was recorded at 10:38 a.m. local time, located about 21 kilometers southwest of Mamburao at a depth of 10 kilometers, PHIVOLCS said in an initial advisory.

Employees at a state agency building in Manila were asked to evacuate as a precaution after shaking was felt in office buildings across the capital. PHIVOLCS said no damage was expected from the earthquake, though aftershocks were possible. No casualties have been reported.
