Investment in Oman’s Duqm SEZ Jumps 141% in Four Years
Committed cumulative investment in Oman’s Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) jumps 141% in four years, to about 8 billion 818 million Omani riyals by the end of last June.
According to Qais bin Mohammed AI Yousef, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, the rise is the result of the improvement in the investment environment within the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, recorded over the past five years. It also underlines the development of the zone’s infrastructure, efforts made to attract investment, and the incentives and facilities offered to investors.
Duqm’s Growing Infrastructure
In a recent statement, AI Yousef said, “The Port of Duqm recorded growth in handling volumes for containers, roll-on/roll-off cargo, oil and gas field pipes, and various goods required for projects under implementation in the zone.”
Speaking about the zone’s industrial growth, he said the Duqm Refinery has successfully raised its production capacity to 255,000 barrels per day, while the Drydock has completed approximately 1,340 projects between 2020 and the end of last year.
Duqm’s Development Spans Multiple Sectors
Duqm is not limited to the industrial estate and is expanding. OPAZ is working closely to establish various other projects within the Duqm SEZ, in alignment with the Sultanate of Oman’s plans for net-zero carbon emissions and to develop it into a green hydrogen sector.
AI Yoused stated that the Duqm SEZ is also working to attract other projects, which include tourism, commercial, and logistics sectors. In addition, the zone is also preparing to facilitate workforce stability by attracting educational and healthcare projects.
OPAZ chairman also highlighted that Duqm University College is going to launch its first academic year in 2026, a qualitative addition to the education sector in the zone.
