MWL Chief Calls for Stronger AI Governance at Kuala Lumpur Conference
KUALA LUMPUR — Sheikh Mohammed Al‑Issa, secretary‑general of the Muslim World League, opened a conference titled “Faith in Light of Science and Contemporary Evidence” in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together Islamic scholars, researchers, and intellectuals from across the region.
Speaking at the one‑day event, Al‑Issa warned that the absence of transparency and accountability ranks among the most serious ethical challenges in the use of artificial intelligence. He noted that data processing raises concerns over privacy violations and misuse of personal information, and that biases in data can lead to unfair decisions, discrimination, or misleading content.
The conference was attended by muftis from ASEAN nations and senior Malaysian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
On the sidelines, Al‑Issa also met with young leaders, including university students and researchers from Southeast Asian countries, to discuss youth empowerment and future challenges. He witnessed the launch of the Scientific Miracles in the Holy Qur’an and the Noble Prophetic Sunnah journal, published in Malay, English, Chinese, and Hindi. His visit also included addressing the Third International Summit of Religious Leaders and the Fourth Forum of the Council of ASEAN.
