Trump Predicts Iran War Will End Right After US Midterm Elections

President Donald Trump predicted Wednesday that the war with Iran will end immediately after November’s US midterm elections, arguing that Tehran is attempting to influence the vote but will be unable to sustain the conflict much longer under mounting US economic pressure.

“I think war is going to end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer. They’re desperate to try and affect the election,” Trump told reporters before departing for the Republican National Convention in Dallas.

The conflict with Iran has recently entered its seventh month with no clear resolution in sight. On Wednesday, Iran said it had attacked 10 ships near the Strait of Hormuz after the US sank five Iranian oil tankers. The renewed fighting sent oil prices surging, with benchmark Brent crude futures breaching $100 a barrel for the first time since July.

Trump’s approval ratings have recently fallen to a record low amid growing voter frustration over the ongoing war and a deepening cost-of-living crisis. Midterm elections, scheduled for November 3, are typically viewed as a broader referendum on the sitting president.

Trump said Wednesday that oil prices would also decline shortly after the election once the conflict comes to an end. While acknowledging that diplomatic talks remain a possibility, he made clear that negotiation is not the administration’s preferred path forward. “Yes, a negotiation could possible happen, but it’s not something we’re looking at,” Trump said.
