The Growing Impact of a Saudi Voice in Climate Research
Saudi environmentalist Hassan Alzain is bridging the gap between global climate science and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals, using research, writing, and policy to advance climate resilience.
A graduate of the Yale School of the Environment, Alzain recently earned a master’s degree in environmental management. He is also the first Saudi GCC national to receive a Chartered Fellowship from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
Alzain has published more than 50 works, including the 2025 book “Green Gambit,” co‑authored with Victor R. Kalimugogo, which won a Green World Award. His forthcoming book, “Resilient Communities,” examines climate adaptation through sustainability, governance, and resilience planning. It has also received a Green World Award in the Innovation Category.
“Climate resilience is ultimately about protecting people, systems and futures,” Alzain told Arab News. He donates his time to mentor young professionals and lead local sustainability groups.
His advice to young Saudis: “Cultivate a multidisciplinary mind. Do not confine yourself to just science or just policy. Your unique perspective is not a barrier, but an invaluable asset.”
