How Saudi Arabia is Helping Yemen with a New Model School Initiative
Saudi Arabia is advancing its commitment to Yemen’s development through a comprehensive school construction and modernization program. Construction is underway on the Al-Sabban model secondary school in Seiyun, one of multiple educational facilities being established across the country.
The Al-Sabban School Project
The new school is being developed by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen and features modern classrooms, laboratories, and learning facilities designed to meet contemporary educational standards. The school aims to create a stimulating environment that supports quality instruction and student development.
Al-Sabban is one of four model schools being built in Hadramout governorate and part of a broader initiative spanning more than 30 similar projects throughout Yemen.
Expanding Educational Access
The Saudi program has launched multiple initiatives beyond school construction. Renewable energy projects in Hadramout are improving access to education in Mukalla, Seiyun, Doan, and Wadi Al-Ain. These complementary efforts ensure schools have reliable electricity and operational capacity.
In January, the program announced major projects including the establishment of computer science and IT colleges at both Hadramout and Seiyun universities. Additionally, the Agricultural Veterinary Technical Institute is being rehabilitated to meet modern standards.
Building a Skilled Workforce
These initiatives address a critical need: aligning graduate skills with labor market demands. By strengthening technical and higher education, the projects aim to create a trained workforce capable of supporting Yemen’s long-term economic development.
The comprehensive approach—combining school infrastructure, university programs, and technical training—demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s strategy to rebuild Yemen’s education system and create opportunities for future generations.
