Saudi Arabia Reacts Strongly to Israeli ‘Aggression’ Against Syria
RIYADH – Saudi Arabia issued a strong condemnation Saturday of Israeli military strikes targeting installations in southern Syria, calling the attacks a blatant violation of international law and a breach of a decades-old disengagement agreement.
The Saudi foreign ministry said the kingdom “reiterates its firm rejection of this blatant aggression and Israel’s violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.” The statement called on the international community to intervene and halt what it characterized as continued violations of international laws and norms.
Israel’s military said Friday it had conducted the strikes in response to what it called attacks against the Druze community in Sweida province, according to reports. Saudi Arabia’s statement affirmed solidarity with Syria, expressing support for measures that preserve Syrian sovereignty, maintain territorial integrity, and achieve security and stability for the Syrian people.
The condemnation resonates across the broader Arab and Gulf region. Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey issued their own statements opposing the strikes, reflecting widespread regional concern about Israeli military operations in Syria.
Egypt’s foreign ministry characterized the attacks as “a flagrant and repeated violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a blatant breach of international law and the principles of the UN Charter.” Cairo warned that the escalation represents “a dangerous disregard for regional security and stability” and threatens to “plunge the Middle East into further chaos and tension.”
Turkey condemned the Israeli strikes “as a dangerous escalation” and urged the international community to prevent further operations. The unified Arab and Gulf response underscores shared concerns about military actions that cross borders and destabilize the region during an already tense period marked by broader Middle East conflicts.
The coordinated statements from multiple countries demonstrate solidarity with Syria’s territorial integrity and opposition to what they view as unilateral Israeli military action without international authorization or consultation.
