As Dubai explores new school models, Sheikh Hamdan emphasises the need to innovate in education

According to KHDA chief Aisha Miran, Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has consistently emphasised the need for innovation in schools, indicating that children in Dubai should not be educated in the same manner as past generations.

As the emirate explores new school models and ways to reshape education for future generations, the chief of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) says Sheikh Hamdan’s message has become a recurring theme in conversations about the emirate’s education plan.

The KHDA chief said, He thinks we should innovate in education, clarifying that the emirate’s leadership does not want the next generation to simply inherit the same educational paradigm. The remarks coincide with Dubai’s examination of alternate educational strategies, such as cutting-edge models that might provide families with alternative means of obtaining education.

According to the KHDA, the emirate has already authorised a new licensing policy and is investigating the conditions needed for such models to work. “We always say that Dubai is a test bed for any kind of innovation she said, adding that the emirate was willing to try various strategies.

We embrace innovation of any form, including the Alpha model, which delivers essential academics in a focused portion of the school day through personalised, AI-supported mastery learning.

However, the official emphasised that innovation will not come at the expense of the core principles of education. Any new model must still meet requirements for student development, academic standards and child safety.

But, as I mentioned, we also need to guarantee certain parameters protecting children guaranteeing their academic success, their well-being, and their self-development. The need for more school spaces in Dubai is driving the push for new models. Eleven applications are presently being reviewed for the next two years, while seven new schools launched in the emirate this academic year.
