Gigi Hadid Steals the Spotlight at Milan Fashion Week Opening

Model Gigi Hadid opened Milan Fashion Week on Tuesday, headlining a star-studded evening of runway and performance staged inside the city’s historic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping arcade.

Hadid opened Vogue World, the magazine’s annual fashion spectacle, which this year centered on Italian craftsmanship and the value of human creativity in an increasingly automated world. She walked in a Renaissance-inspired Valentino Haute Couture gown built from diamond-shaped patchwork panels mixing florals, stripes, chevrons and metallic gold, featuring a voluminous skirt, oversized bell sleeves, a high ruffled ivory collar and cream lace cuffs. For a second appearance later in the show, she switched into a long-sleeved white sequined column dress paired with glittering silver pumps.

She was joined by a wide-ranging lineup of stars, including Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B and J Balvin, along with tennis player Aryna Sabalenka, model Irina Shayk and supermodel Helena Christensen. Guests in attendance included actors Dakota Johnson, Jason Momoa and Monica Bellucci, as well as designers Donatella Versace, Miuccia Prada, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Alicia Keys closed out the night with a performance beneath the Galleria’s glass dome, while Italian ballet star Roberto Bolle performed alongside dancers from La Scala’s academy.

Milan Fashion Week runs through September 28, with 54 physical shows and 88 presentations on the schedule this season. Prada opened the runway calendar Tuesday afternoon, marking the first time the house has kicked off the week. Max Mara, Marni and Emporio Armani are set to show Thursday, followed by Gucci on Friday, where designer Demna will present his second collection for the house, alongside Moschino’s debut collection from new creative directors Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo. Dolce & Gabbana and Bottega Veneta follow on Saturday, with Giorgio Armani closing out the physical shows on Sunday.

Earlier this month, Hadid opened Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring/Summer 2027 show at The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, wearing loose red pants, a tan suit jacket and a navy bucket hat. That show ran on the opening day of New York Fashion Week and marked the American designer’s return to the official schedule; Hadid has worked with the brand since 2016, co-designing four Gigi x Tommy capsule collections along the way.
