Saudi Arabia and Turkiye Sign Landmark Rail Cooperation Agreement
RIYADH — Saudi Arabia and Turkiye have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the railway sector, as the Kingdom pushes forward with plans to expand its transport infrastructure and logistics capabilities.
The agreement was signed in Riyadh by Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al‑Jasser and Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The deal aims to enhance collaboration on railway technologies, specifications, and innovation, while promoting the exchange of expertise in the design, operation, and maintenance of rail projects. The two countries will also cooperate on infrastructure development, engineering standards, rail safety, and efforts to reduce the sector’s environmental impact.
A key focus of the partnership is developing national talent through specialized training programs and railway academies, alongside efforts to localize rail‑related industries and strengthen competitiveness.
Saudi officials said the agreement supports the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030, which aim to position the Kingdom as a global logistics hub connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa. The deal reflects growing Saudi‑Turkish cooperation across transport, infrastructure, technology, and investment.
