Prince Harry Urges Immediate Aid Corridors to Be Opened in Gaza
Britain’s Prince Harry has added his voice to calls for urgent humanitarian access to Gaza, following a visit to Jordan that included meetings with refugees and aid workers.
“Everything that I’ve heard and everything that I’ve seen, especially from World Central Kitchen, what we heard this morning on the live link, was that the food, the aid corridors need to be opened, that they’re currently not,” Prince Harry said in an interview with Britain’s Channel 4 News.
A Visit with Purpose
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were invited to Jordan by World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who met them upon their arrival in Amman. During their visit, they met children at a refugee camp and observed firsthand the humanitarian operations Jordan has mounted in response to regional crises.
“It was really important for us to highlight the incredible work that Jordan does for this region,” Prince Harry said. “I think the work has been going on for decades but more so, recently as being a humanitarian hub for the Middle East, especially with what’s going on in Gaza and Syria as well.”
A Call to Attention
The prince noted that while Gaza has received significant news coverage, attention can wane over time—a pattern he sought to counter through his visit.
“The entire world has spoken up. There is a lot of stuff in the news … What’s been happening in that region has been going on for a long time and it drops out of the news,” he said. “So I think it was a really important time for us to collaborate and come here to shine a light and focus on the very real humanitarian catastrophe that is happening and continues.”
Jordan’s Role
At the Zaatari refugee camp, the couple joined children for football, art, and music sessions—small moments of normalcy in lives shaped by displacement. Prince Harry praised Jordan’s response to regional crises, calling its efforts “moral leadership.”
“The world should be incredibly grateful for what Jordan is doing and the moral leadership that it’s showing for the world right now,” he said.
A Simple Message
Prince Harry’s message was straightforward: aid corridors need to be opened. Food needs to reach those who are hungry. Medical supplies need to reach those who are sick. The mechanisms exist; they simply need to be activated.
For Gazans facing another winter of war and displacement, the call from a British prince may not change realities on the ground. But it adds one more voice to the chorus urging action—and one more reminder that, even as attention wanes, the humanitarian catastrophe continues.
