Yemen Security Forces Reveal STC Weapons and Explosives Used in Attacks

In a stark demonstration of ongoing tensions within Yemen, anti-terrorism forces in the port city of Mukalla have presented a cache of confiscated weapons and explosives. The forces, which are trained and equipped by Saudi Arabia, identified the arsenal as belonging to the now-dissolved, UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).

The display comes amidst serious allegations from local officials. Salam Al-Khanbashi, the governor of Hadhramaut governorate—Yemen’s largest—has publicly accused the United Arab Emirates of exploiting the Saudi-led coalition’s efforts to restore Yemen’s legitimate government in order to pursue its own agenda.

In a televised statement, Governor Al-Khanbashi made grave claims against armed groups affiliated with STC leader Major General Aidarous Al-Zubaidi. He stated that citizens in Hadhramaut had been subjected to killings, terror, and torture by these factions. Al-Zubaidi, who is backed by the UAE, was recently removed from his position as vice-president of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC).

This public exhibition of captured munitions serves as a tangible accusation, visually supporting the governor’s claims of destabilizing activities. It highlights the complex and often fractious landscape of Yemen’s conflict, where alliances shift and local grievances become intertwined with broader regional rivalries. The incident underscores the challenges facing efforts to achieve lasting stability, as internal divisions continue to surface long after the dissolution of formal secessionist structures.
