Gaza Violence Continues as Two Palestinians Lose Their Lives

Gaza Violence Continues as Two Palestinians Lose Their Lives

Despite a fragile truce, violence has again erupted in Gaza. On Friday, Israeli forces killed two Palestinians in the northern towns of Beit Lahia and Jabalia, according to local sources, in what is being described as a breach of the ceasefire agreement. A woman was also injured by gunfire east of Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza.

The Israeli military carried out several coordinated attacks overnight, targeting residential buildings across multiple areas as part of its ongoing policy of urban demolition. Reports detail assaults on buildings northeast of Gaza City, heavy artillery fire in eastern and southern Khan Younis, and intense airstrikes and shelling in Rafah.

A Humanitarian Catastrophe Unabated

Beyond the immediate violence, the United Nations issued a stark warning: the deepening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza cannot be alleviated without the unrestricted opening of all crossings for aid delivery. UNRWA spokesperson Jonathan Fowler emphasized that merely opening the Rafah crossing for individual transit, while blocking aid, does nothing to improve conditions on the ground.

Fowler revealed a critical bottleneck: humanitarian supplies destined for Gaza have been stuck in Egypt and Jordan since March 2025, blocked by Israeli authorities. He stated that at least 600 aid trucks per day are needed to sustain the population, a target far from being met.

A “Man-Made Humanitarian Disaster”

The situation, described by Fowler as a “man-made humanitarian disaster,” has seen only negligible improvement. The slight increase in aid during summer 2025 fails to compensate for the massive destruction. Children continue to suffer from hunger, medical supplies are woefully insufficient, and disease outbreaks persist due to collapsed water and sewage systems and a severe shortage of shelter.

Fowler also condemned the continued ban on UNRWA’s operations post-ceasefire, calling it a political choice targeting the largest and most experienced humanitarian organization in Gaza. He warned that restrictions on civil society groups seem designed to confine aid work to select actors, undermining the non-negotiable principles of humanitarian law.

The events of Friday lay bare a devastating reality: the ceasefire remains perilously thin, and the world’s response is failing to stem a catastrophic human toll. As violence recurs and lifesaving aid is obstructed, the people of Gaza remain trapped between bombardment and a spiraling crisis of survival.
