AL-KHOBAR – Saudi Arabia has surged to 22nd place globally in the 2026 World Happiness Report, climbing 15 positions and ranking ahead of major economies including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The improvement reflects rising living standards and quality of life improvements driven by Vision 2030 reforms.

Saudi Arabia recorded a life evaluation score of 6.817 out of 10, based on average survey data collected between 2023 and 2025. The ranking outpaces the US at 23rd, Canada at 25th, and the UK at 29th, marking one of the most notable improvements in this year’s report.

The World Happiness Report evaluates 147 countries using survey data from Gallup and analysis by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network. Rankings are based on how people rate their own lives using economic and social indicators including GDP per capita, social support, health life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.

Saudi Arabia’s rise reflects visible changes in daily life across the kingdom. Over the past decade, reforms have expanded employment opportunities, improved infrastructure, and increased access to entertainment, culture, and public spaces. The Quality of Life Program under Vision 2030 aims to expand urban living options and cultural-recreational opportunities nationwide.

Residents describe tangible improvements in their communities. Ahmed Al-Dossari, a police officer in Dammam, noted the transformation in the Eastern Province. “Life in the Eastern Province has changed a lot in the last few years. There are more parks, events and things for families to do. People feel more comfortable going out and spending time together,” he said.

Sara Al-Tamimi, an English teacher in Riyadh, observed changing social dynamics. “There are many more opportunities now for families and young people to enjoy their time. Students talk about concerts, festivals and new places opening in the city. It creates a positive atmosphere and gives people something to look forward to,” she said.

The World Happiness Report emphasizes the role of social trust and community relationships in life satisfaction. Countries where residents report stronger community ties tend to rank higher globally. Researchers found that everyday activities like sharing meals, maintaining friendships, and participating in community life correlate closely with higher life evaluations.

Nordic countries continue dominating the rankings, with Finland again ranked the world’s happiest nation. Gulf countries generally rank strongly due to high living standards and extensive public services. Saudi Arabia’s steady upward trend demonstrates how infrastructure investment, expanded recreational opportunities, and improved social conditions translate into measurable improvements in resident satisfaction.
