LONDON — The Riyadh Metro has officially been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s longest driverless metro network, spanning an impressive 176 kilometers across the Saudi capital. This landmark achievement underscores Saudi Arabia’s ambitious strides in building modern, sustainable urban infrastructure.

As the centerpiece of Riyadh’s public transportation initiative, the metro system comprises six fully automated lines connecting 85 stations. It incorporates advanced technologies and is operated through high-precision control rooms that ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency.

In its announcement, Guinness World Records highlighted the metro’s role in enhancing urban mobility, easing traffic congestion, and providing eco-friendly transportation solutions. The system forms a vital part of efforts to transform Riyadh into a more connected and sustainable city.

Developed under the guidance of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, the metro project reflects the broader goals of Saudi Vision 2030—a strategic roadmap aimed at diversifying the economy and improving quality of life through innovation and infrastructure development.

Together with the city’s bus network, the Riyadh Metro supports not only daily commutes but also economic growth, urban expansion, and social connectivity. Its driverless design places it at the forefront of smart transportation systems worldwide, setting a new global benchmark for metropolitan rail networks.
