Key Highlights as CoMotion GLOBAL 2025 Begins in Riyadh
This week, the global conversation on the future of cities and transportation has a distinct new address: Riyadh. CoMotion GLOBAL 2025, one of the world’s foremost urban mobility summits, opened in the Saudi capital on Sunday, transforming the city into a vibrant hub for policymakers, mayors, and industry pioneers. From December 7 to 9, the summit is set to explore the powerful forces—electrification, autonomous vehicles, AI, and megaprojects—reshaping how we move, with Saudi Arabia itself emerging as a central testbed for these next-generation solutions.
Hosted by the Saudi Conventions & Exhibitions General Authority and supported by key government entities, the event underscores the Kingdom’s strategic commitment to becoming a leader in smart urban development. The summit gathers senior officials and global innovators, showcasing cleaner, more connected transport systems poised to define the coming decade.
A major highlight of the opening was the launch of two pivotal initiatives: Mayors in Motion, a global network designed to facilitate the exchange of practical mobility solutions among city leaders, and the CoMotion Urban Visionary Distinction, which will recognize exceptional leadership in urban innovation.
“CoMotion GLOBAL is where the world’s urban mobility future takes shape, and the energy in Riyadh today is extraordinary,” said John Rossant, founder and CEO of CoMotion GLOBAL. He emphasized that the critical dialogue for the next decade of transformation is happening at the city level, noting Riyadh is the “perfect host for that dialogue – bold, ambitious, and redefining what a future-ready city can be.”
Discussions are set to delve into Riyadh’s own rapid evolution, including its expansive metro project, the accelerating adoption of electric vehicles, and the catalytic role that major upcoming events like Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup will play in fast-tracking long-term mobility infrastructure.
In a move aligning with its core themes, the organizers have announced that CoMotion GLOBAL 2025 is a fully climate-offset event, achieved through an international waste-to-energy initiative. This commitment reinforces the summit’s foundational focus on sustainable, responsible urban development.
As the summit progresses, Riyadh is not just hosting a conference; it is actively positioning itself at the intersection of ambition and execution, demonstrating how visionary cities can drive the global mobility revolution forward.
