Jazan Honey Exhibition Attracts Thousands, Crosses SR1m in Sales
The air in Jazan is thick with the scent of blossoms and success. The region’s annual honey exhibition, a vibrant celebration of local craftsmanship and natural bounty, has reported a remarkable milestone: sales exceeding one million Saudi riyals in just its first four days.
Held at the cultural center in Al-Edabi Governorate, the event has become a powerful testament to the thriving apiculture industry in Saudi Arabia’s southwest. The impressive sales figure, highlighted by Suleiman Al-Ghazwani, Executive Director of the exhibition and Vice President of the Jazan Beekeepers Association, points to a robust consumer confidence in the quality and diversity of locally produced honey.
A Hive of Activity and Heritage
The exhibition is a true immersion into the world of bees and their keepers. With 60 beekeepers presenting around 10 tonnes of honey across 15 distinct regional varieties, visitors are treated to a golden showcase of Jazan’s unique floral landscapes. From the renowned Sidr honey to other specialty types, each jar tells a story of specific terrains and traditional knowledge.
But the event is about more than just sales. It’s a comprehensive platform for growth and education. The Jazan Beekeepers Association’s prominent pavilion is a focal point, displaying modern extraction equipment, processing tools, and beekeeping supplies. This hands-on display is crucial for the industry’s evolution, supporting beekeepers in transitioning from traditional methods to more efficient, modern practices.
Empowering Communities, Preserving Traditions
A core mission of the exhibition and the association is empowerment. The event has provided a direct marketplace for 45 families working in the industry, offering rural women and local households a vital channel to showcase and market their goods. Beyond honey, their stalls brim with heritage—traditional foods, handmade accessories, perfumes, incense, and herbal extracts—creating a rich cultural and tourist experience.
Furthermore, the association emphasizes continuous development through training programs. These initiatives cover everything from beekeeping fundamentals and production efficiency to advanced technical and marketing practices, ensuring the local industry remains sustainable and competitive.
A Festival with a Deeper Purpose
The gathering serves a purpose that extends beyond economics. It actively raises awareness of the nutritional and therapeutic value of honey and its derivatives. Importantly, it also champions the protection and preservation of the region’s beekeeping pastures, understanding that the health of the environment is inseparable from the health of the industry.
As the 10-day exhibition continues, drawing visitors from across the Kingdom and beyond, it stands as a clear symbol of a community in harmony with its natural resources. The crossing of the one-million-riyal mark is not just a financial indicator; it is a measure of growing appreciation for local produce, skilled craftsmanship, and the timeless, sweet treasure produced by the dedicated beekeepers of Jazan.
