Israeli Settlers’ Attack on Pro-Palestine Group Sparks Outrage Near Jericho
LONDON — Four international activists were injured in a dawn attack by masked Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank community of Ein al-Duyuk, near Jericho, on Sunday morning. The assault has renewed calls for an end to settler violence against civilians in Palestinian territories.
According to reports from the Palestinian news agency Wafa, approximately ten masked individuals stormed the residence where the activists were staying. They assaulted the group, stole personal items including passports and mobile phones, and left four people wounded. Three activists sustained moderate injuries, while one was critically hurt and later hospitalized. Three of those attacked are Italian nationals, and the fourth is a Canadian citizen.
The incident follows a joint statement last week from France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom urging Israel to halt “settler violence against Palestinian civilians” in the West Bank. The European nations warned that such attacks could undermine efforts to resolve the Gaza war and jeopardize long-term peace prospects.
Since October 2023, attacks by Israeli settlers in the West Bank have risen sharply. These incidents have included road blockades targeting Palestinians, destruction of private and commercial property, and sabotage of agricultural land across multiple communities.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967, and settler-related violence has drawn increasing international condemnation amid escalating regional tensions.
