Iran Launches New Missile Attacks After Khamenei’s Son Assumes Leadership

Iran extended attacks beyond Israel to Gulf neighbors. Qatar, home to a major US air base, experienced explosions early Monday. Kuwait’s Defense Ministry reported dealing with aerial threats from Iran.
Saudi Arabia’s air defenses intercepted three ballistic missiles and four drones entering the Kingdom’s airspace. The missile strike followed the region’s established pattern of escalating tensions.
The New Leader’s Profile
Mojtaba Khamenei is a trained cleric close to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, the ideological military arm. He comes to power with far less experience than his father, who previously served as president.
The Revolutionary Guards quickly pledged support, stating they were “ready for complete obedience and self-sacrifice” under the new leader. Few observers expect significant policy changes under his tenure.
International Warnings Ignored
President Donald Trump had called the younger Khamenei a “lightweight” and demanded American input into the succession. “If he doesn’t get approval from us he’s not going to last long,” Trump told ABC News before the announcement.
Israel’s military issued its own warning: “We will not hesitate to target you.” Both warnings failed to prevent the succession or the immediate military response.
