‘Where Can We Go?’: Gaza Tent Camp Hit by Israeli Strikes
  • PublishedMarch 12, 2026

Displaced Palestinians sheltering in tents west of Gaza City received evacuation orders during Ramadan on Wednesday evening. Israeli military personnel called residents ordering them to leave within five minutes as strikes targeted the camp.

Evacuation Orders During Ramadan

Residents said they were called by apparent Israeli military personnel with orders to evacuate immediately. The five-minute notice gave Palestinians little time to gather belongings or plan where to go next.

Ibtessal al-Shanbary escaped with only a backpack and small possessions from her tent. She described the situation: “They called us and told us to evacuate. We cannot breathe. And now they set our tents on fire. Where can we go?”

Multiple Strikes on Anssar Camp

Anssar camp west of Gaza City was struck three times Wednesday evening. Witnesses reported the first two strikes were warnings, followed by a major strike that sparked a huge fire with large plumes of smoke.

The pattern of warning strikes followed by major strikes left residents with minimal time to flee. The sequence created panic among the already displaced population sheltering in the camp.

Humanitarian Displacement Crisis

Displaced Palestinians were already living in temporary tent shelters due to the broader conflict. The strikes forced further displacement during the holy month of Ramadan when families were breaking their daily fasts.

The residents face uncertainty about where to relocate after losing their temporary shelters. The continuous cycle of displacement creates a deepening humanitarian crisis across Gaza.

Military Response

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the strikes. The lack of immediate statement left circumstances and justifications unclear to observers.

Witnesses provided accounts of the strikes and evacuations. Independent verification of attack details remained limited.

Growing Displacement Pattern

The strikes represent another instance of forced displacement affecting Gaza’s population. Thousands of Palestinians continue facing repeated relocations as military operations continue.

The humanitarian toll of repeated displacement includes loss of shelter, belongings, and psychological trauma. Families struggle to find safe locations amid ongoing conflict.
