Arab Leaders React to US-Iran Ceasefire: Focus on Peace and Stability in the Region

Arab governments have responded positively to the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, expressing cautious optimism while calling for sustained diplomatic efforts to achieve lasting regional peace.

Strategic Positioning

The UAE’s presidential adviser Anwar Gargash framed the ceasefire within the Emirates’ broader strategic narrative. “The UAE emerged victorious from a war we sincerely sought to avoid,” he wrote on X, suggesting the country has strengthened its position and is now better equipped to shape future regional outcomes despite its preference to remain outside the conflict.

Maritime Security Priorities

Qatar welcomed the ceasefire but emphasized immediate concerns over shipping disruptions. The country called for urgent protection of freedom of navigation and trade in the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting the critical importance of this waterway for global energy supplies and commerce. Qatar’s focus reflects widespread anxiety about maintaining stable global supply chains and uninterrupted maritime commerce.

Mediation and Long-Term Vision

Oman positioned itself as a champion of sustained dialogue and stability. The foreign minister pledged support for efforts toward “strong and enduring regional security,” urging serious negotiations between Washington and Tehran to achieve lasting peace. The emphasis on mediation reflects Oman’s historical role as a neutral player in regional conflicts.

Saudi Arabia’s Welcome

Saudi Arabia praised the ceasefire as a product of “fruitful efforts,” acknowledging statements by US President Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Kingdom specifically highlighted Pakistan’s role in facilitating the agreement, noting the involvement of Pakistan’s army chief General Asim Munir.

The Saudi foreign ministry reiterated support for a comprehensive agreement that addresses underlying security issues that have troubled the region for decades.

Unified Message

The varied reactions share a common theme: while Arab nations welcome the ceasefire, they are collectively emphasizing the need for diplomatic engagement to transform it into a permanent settlement. Rather than declarations of victory, Arab leaders are focused on practical concerns—maritime security, mediation, comprehensive agreements, and regional stability.

The responses underscore how Arab nations view the ceasefire as an opening for dialogue rather than a final resolution to long-standing tensions.
