Tehran Explosions Shock the World as Israel Confirms Military Strikes

TEHRAN – Explosions rocked Tehran early Monday morning as Israel confirmed launching a fresh wave of military strikes targeting the Iranian capital, marking another major escalation in the ongoing conflict.

Local media reported multiple blasts across the city. The Mehr news agency said airstrikes targeted five areas of Tehran, with residents reporting “terrible sounds of explosions” across different neighborhoods. More than an hour after the initial reports, a thick plume of black smoke was still visible rising from eastern Tehran, according to an AFP journalist observing the damage.

Israel’s military announced the operation on Telegram, stating it had “begun a wide-scale wave of strikes targeting Iranian terror regime infrastructure in Tehran.” The statement confirmed the operation was deliberate and coordinated rather than accidental or isolated incidents.

The strikes represent a significant escalation in the military campaign that began February 28. Previous Israeli operations have focused on military facilities, energy infrastructure, and command centers across Iran. The targeting of the capital itself marks an intensification of the aerial assault on Iranian territory.

The extent of damage and casualties remained unclear in the immediate aftermath of the strikes. Iranian authorities have not yet released official casualty figures or detailed assessments of structural damage to critical infrastructure.

The operation continues a pattern of escalating military actions that have characterized the conflict, with Israel launching periodic strikes on Iranian territory while Iran responds with salvos of missiles and drones targeting Gulf energy infrastructure and Israeli positions.

The strikes signal that despite weeks of sustained warfare, neither side shows signs of de-escalation or willingness to pursue ceasefire negotiations.
